About US

FL Aviation's Origin

In 1988, FL Aviation was born to manage the aircraft of Forstmann, Little & Co., one of the most influential private equity firms of the 20th century. The firm needed someone to oversee the flight operations of its corporate fleet, our current president, Tom Ritz, was entrusted with the task.

Co-founded by Ted Forstmann, Forstmann Little & Company was a pioneer in the world of private equity acquiring and transforming companies like Gulfstream and Dr. Pepper.

In 1990, Forstmann, Little & Co. acquired Gulfstream, bringing with it a wave of capital, leadership, and vision. Under Forstmann’s guidance, Gulfstream launched some of its most celebrated aircraft, including the GIV-SP and GV. He believed in quality over quantity, in engineering excellence, and in building an aviation brand that represented success and distinction.

Decades later, our origin story continues to shape our identity at FL Aviation. We combine the lessons learned from managing a corporate fleet at the highest level with over 35 years of hands-on experience supporting private aircraft owners, executives, and families. What began as a responsibility to Forstmann, Little & Company has grown into a reputation built on focused attention, trusted management, and the ability to deliver unmatched value in every aspect of aircraft ownership.
